From: Yvonne To: officers@281.com <officers@281.com> Date: Wednesday, April 28, 1999 9:30 PM Subject: Screen Resolution My home page says that I need to change my screen resolution
from 640*480 to 800*600. Please let me know how to do this and what
difference this will make.
Thank you,
Yvonne
Yvonne,
The web designer for our web
site, Inside Highland Lakes, has placed a program that reads what resolution
your screen is set at because he designed this site to be best viewed at
800X600. Hence the message you receive because yours is set to
640X480. Most web sites today are designed at 800X600 because most
Internet user have 15" or larger monitors.
These numbers literally mean the
number of pixels(dots) across and down your screen. Two things happen when
you increase the screen resolution:
1. The picture gets finer
with better detail.
2. Everything gets
smaller, but you see more. Hence less scrolling to get to what you want on
a web site!
You can compensate for the
smaller words and icons by increasing their size. You can do this and
change the screen resolution in "Display Properties." You can
get there two ways, either through Control Panel, or you may right click
anywhere on your desktop and left click properties.
Click the "Settings" tab to change
your resolution. There is a slidebar about halfway down that you can slide
to the different choices your Video Card and Monitor support(Note Some Monitors and Video cards will not support as high a
resolution as others, setting this setting to a higher resolution than supported
may make your screen unreadable or damage your monitor. Please consult
your Monitor manual or manufacture's support before
adjusting these settings if you are unsure about the video modes supported by
your computer system). You can also change the number of colors
that your computer will display here to.
![]() Click the "Appearance" tab to change
the size, color, and distance apart of the different components within Windows
95/98. Note that changing the scheme will reset everything you set back to
a default set of values for that scheme. It is recommended that you save your custom scheme first before
changing the scheme. Making the words too large will truncate words
contained inside buttons and on menus. i.e. Send
a... for Send and Receive
